Produce, Cellar Doors & a Distillery Trail

Eat and drink your way through citrus, almond and vine country

1 day Food and wine lovers 6 stops

The plan

This is the Riverland at its most delicious: a day built around farm gates, family wineries and the region's growing craft scene. Keep small change for honesty boxes and an appetite for tastings.

Morning: market and farm gate

If it's a Saturday, start at the Riverland Farmers Market on the Berri riverfront for coffee, breakfast and a survey of everything the district grows. Otherwise pull in at roadside stalls — the Almond Hut near Waikerie, citrus honesty boxes around Renmark — for a carload of fresh produce.

Midday: family cellar doors

Taste the region's heritage and future at Angove Family Winemakers in Renmark, five generations deep in wine and St Agnes brandy. Swing through a smaller door — Mallee Estate near Loxton for Italian varieties, or Burk Salter at Blanchetown — for the conversational, grower-poured experience the Riverland does so well.

Afternoon: the craft scene

Finish at Hogwash Bend Distillery near Cadell, where small-batch spirits lean on the region's citrus and produce. Cross on the Cadell ferry, find a riverside picnic spot, and toast a region that quietly feeds the country.
