The Almond Hut

A roadside almond and local-produce shop in the heart of Riverland nut country.

The Riverland grows a huge share of Australia's almonds, and roadside outlets like the Almond Hut are where that abundance meets the traveller. Bags of fresh and flavoured almonds, local honey, dried fruit and regional produce make it an easy, cheap stop.

It's the kind of unfussy farm-gate retail the region is built on. Buy a bag for the road, ask what's in season, and you'll usually leave knowing more about almond harvest than you expected.

Time a visit for late summer and you may catch the orchards being shaken at harvest — a memorable bit of agricultural theatre.
