Burk Salter Wines
A small, friendly family cellar door at Blanchetown near Lock 1.
Burk Salter is a small family winery at Blanchetown, the river town built around Lock 1 — the first of the Murray's locks. The cellar door is the kind of unhurried, conversational place the Riverland does well, where the person pouring is usually the person who grew the grapes.
The range leans into the warm-climate strengths of the district: generous reds and easy whites made for sharing on a verandah. It's an honest stop, not a slick one, and the better for it.
Pair a tasting with a look at nearby Lock 1 and you've got a tidy half-day at the western gateway to the Riverland.
