Chaffey Theatre
The Riverland's home of stage, screen and touring shows
Renmark's 500-seat performing arts centre, named for the Chaffey brothers. Live theatre, concerts, films and exhibitions bring touring culture deep into the Riverland.
It surprises first-time visitors that a town of Renmark's size has a fully equipped 500-seat performing arts centre — but the Chaffey Theatre has been the Riverland's cultural engine room for decades. Managed by Country Arts SA, it hosts touring theatre, concerts, comedy and dance, screens films, and hangs regular exhibitions in its gallery spaces.
The name honours George and William Chaffey, the Canadian engineers whose 1887 irrigation settlement created Renmark itself — a story told in period detail at Olivewood, the family homestead across town.
For travellers, the theatre is a genuinely useful card to have up your sleeve: a hot-afternoon or wet-evening option in a region built around outdoor attractions. Pair a show with dinner at the Renmark Hotel on the riverfront and you have a proper night out, Riverland style.
