Headings Cliffs Lookout

Big views over the river bend

A clifftop lookout high above the Murray in the Murray River National Park, with sweeping views over the floodplain.

The Murtho cliffs north of Renmark are among the most striking on the entire river - sheer walls of ochre and cream limestone rising straight from the water, capped with mallee. The Headings area gives you a front-row seat, with river access and views along one of the Murray's grandest bends.

Late afternoon is the time to be here, when the low sun sets the cliff face ablaze. This is houseboat country, and you'll often see vessels moored beneath the cliffs for the night. It's wild, big-sky river scenery and a reminder of just how deeply the Murray has cut through this ancient landscape.
