A rare lift-span bridge over the Murray at Paringa, opened in 1927 and still carrying road traffic.
Opened in 1927, the Paringa Bridge is one of only a handful of lift-span bridges on the River Murray. Its central section once rose to let tall paddle steamers and now houseboats pass beneath, a working piece of engineering heritage that still carries traffic between Paringa and Renmark. The bridge is a striking sight against the river and cliffs, and a favourite of photographers. Pause on the Paringa side to take in the view and, if you’re lucky, watch the span lift for a passing boat.
