A free cable ferry crossing the Murray at the small fruit-growing town of Cadell.
Like several Riverland river towns, Cadell is linked to the far bank by a free 24-hour cable ferry — one of the small, characterful rituals of travelling the Murray. The crossing is short and the cost nil, and there's a simple pleasure in watching the ferry clank back and forth across the brown water.
Cadell itself is a quiet fruit-growing community, and the ferry connects it to a scenic loop of river roads. It's a worthwhile detour for the river views and the gentle novelty of a country cable crossing.
