Ral Ral Creek

A quiet anabranch creek threading the Renmark floodplain

Ral Ral Creek is one of those side-channels that gives the Riverland its character — an anabranch of the Murray that loops through red gum floodplain on the edge of Renmark before rejoining the main river. Where the main channel can run fast and wide, the creek is sheltered and still.

That makes it ideal for an easy paddle. Launch a canoe or kayak and drift between overhanging river red gums, watching for darters drying their wings, herons stalking the shallows and the occasional flash of an azure kingfisher. Carp are everywhere; so, more happily, are pelicans.

The creek passes close to Bert Dingley Park and the Renmark Apex Park lawns, so it's an easy half-day from town. Bring water, sun protection and a hat — there's little shade once you're on the water.
