Lyrup Flats, Murray River National Park

A red-gum floodplain section of Murray River National Park near Lyrup, with camping and canoeing.

Lyrup Flats is one of the three sections of Murray River National Park, a stretch of classic floodplain country across the river from the small town of Lyrup. Red-gum forest, anabranch creeks and lagoons make it prime habitat for waterbirds and native wildlife.

For visitors it offers bush camping, canoeing the creeks and quiet walking among the gums. As with the rest of the park, camping requires a booking and permit. It's a less-visited corner that rewards travellers wanting the floodplain to themselves.
