A free riverside camping and picnic reserve five kilometres west of Waikerie — grassy, shaded sites along the Murray with a boat ramp and toilets at the adjacent Apex park.
Ramco Point is the Waikerie district's classic free river camp: a run of grassy, well-shaded sites along the Murray about five kilometres west of town, signposted off the Waikerie–Cadell road. Big lawns roll down to the water, old gums throw shade, and the river slides past wide and unhurried on its way around the point.
The practicalities are easy. Camping is free with a seven-day maximum, the Waikerie riverfront and town shops are five minutes away, and a boat ramp and toilets sit just along the bank at the Phillip Allen Memorial Apex Park — which makes the point popular with anglers and skiers as well as campers. The access road is unsealed and weather-dependent, so check conditions in town after rain, especially with a van on.
It is also simply a lovely place to do nothing: pelicans working the reach, Hart Lagoon's birdlife around the corner, and sunsets that pour straight down the river. For more spots like it, see our guide to camping beside the Murray.
