Waikerie Riverfront

A green riverfront beneath the town's namesake cliffs, with a free ferry and houseboat moorings.

Waikerie sits on a high bank above a broad reach of the Murray, and its riverfront is one of the prettiest in the region — lawns and shade trees running down to the water, with the pale cliffs that gave the town its character rising opposite.

A free 24-hour ferry crosses here, houseboats moor along the bank, and the rowing and ski clubs keep the water busy. It's an easy place to swim, picnic or just watch the river traffic.

The town above is the self-styled gateway to gliding country, but down on the riverfront it's all about the slow brown river and the cliffs catching the afternoon sun.
