Loch Luna Game Reserve
A maze of lagoons, creeks and reed beds near Barmera, best explored by canoe.
Loch Luna is a sprawling wetland of interlinked lagoons and anabranch creeks tucked between Barmera and the main river. Part of the wider Chowilla and Bookmark biosphere country, it's a haven for waterbirds and one of the Riverland's classic paddling destinations.
A marked canoe trail winds through the reserve, passing drowned red gums, floating rafts of waterlilies and quiet backwaters where the only sound is birdsong. Walkers can follow tracks along the levee banks. Bring everything you need — there are no facilities out here — and you'll have a genuine slice of wetland wilderness largely to yourself.
