Wachtels Lagoon Walk

A wetland walking trail through the Banrock Station floodplain, looping past lagoons and bird hides.

Part of the Banrock Station wetland complex near Kingston-on-Murray, the Wachtels Lagoon trail loops out across the Ramsar-listed floodplain on boardwalks and paths, with hides set up for watching the waterbirds the wetland is famous for.

The walk is flat and well-formed, winding past open lagoons, reed beds and stands of black box and red gum. Early morning is best, when the birds are most active. It's a gentle, rewarding way to understand why this corner of the river matters so much for conservation.
