The Riverland Citrus & Orchard Trail
A day through the orchards, packing sheds and roadside stalls that feed the nation
The plan
The Riverland is one of Australia's great food bowls, and a day spent following its produce is a day spent in the working heart of the region. Citrus, almonds and stone fruit grow in their millions here, watered by the Murray.
This trail mixes orchard drives with the places that sell the fruit fresh — roadside stalls, packing operations and producer outlets. Come in winter for citrus at its peak, or spring for the blossom and the first stone fruit.
Keep an esky in the boot; you'll fill it. And remember the Riverland's fruit-fly rules — buy local and eat as you go rather than carting fruit across quarantine boundaries.
