A restored wetland on the edge of Renmark with an easy walking loop and prolific birdlife.

Bookmark Creek winds along the southern edge of Renmark, and the wetland that has grown up around it is one of the easiest places in the Riverland to see waterbirds without leaving town. A flat, well-formed walking and cycling trail follows the creek, threading past reed beds, open water and stands of black box.

Mornings are best, when herons stalk the shallows and the air is loud with parrots. The trail connects towards the Renmark riverfront, so you can stitch together a longer walk that takes in both the creek and the main river. It's a gentle, accessible introduction to the wetland country that defines this stretch of the Murray.
