Murray River National Park

Floodplain forest and wetlands

A national park in three sections — Bulyong, Katarapko and Lyrup Flats — protecting some of the finest floodplain forest on the Murray.

The Murray River National Park protects three superb stretches of floodplain along the river — Bulyong Island near Renmark, Katarapko near Berri and Lyrup Flats. Between them they hold towering river red gums, billabongs, anabranch creeks and wetlands teeming with birdlife. Canoeing the quiet creeks, camping under the gums, fishing for callop and cod, and walking the riverbank are all part of the experience. This is the wild heart of the Riverland, and one of the most important inland habitats in the state.
