Rocky Gully Wetlands

A constructed wetland near Barmera with a walking trail and bird hide, treating water for Lake Bonney.

The Rocky Gully Wetlands near Barmera are a working piece of environmental engineering, built to filter drainage water before it reaches Lake Bonney while creating valuable habitat in the process. The result is an accessible wetland alive with birds.

A walking trail and bird hide let you watch ducks, spoonbills, herons and crakes move across the ponds, with interpretive signage explaining how the system works. It's a short, easy outing, especially good early in the morning, and a nice companion to a loop around nearby Lake Bonney.
