Loxton Tree of Knowledge
A giant river red gum on the Loxton riverfront painted with the heights of historic Murray floods.
The Tree of Knowledge is one of Loxton's best-known landmarks — a venerable river red gum on the riverfront whose trunk carries painted markers recording the heights reached by major River Murray floods, including the great flood of 1956.
Standing beneath it and looking up at how high the water once rose is a sobering, vivid history lesson in a single glance. It anchors a shaded riverfront precinct of lawns, trails and the nearby historical village, and is an essential stop on any visit to genteel, garden-loving Loxton.
